Wow, I'd like to read your book once it's published and copy right protected. I know my response is a tad bit late. But, I found this site for the second time. I had not been on it for a while because I read a lot of stuff on other websites. Mostly dealing with science. Science is my favorite subject. But, I too like to read:)

I use a Gentoo. I play Dungeons & Dragons and complained about 3.5 edition. I have the latest Pokemon games and play competitively. I rule the world of Halo and Guitar Hero and I know C++. I have not left my house in 3 weeks. I can't tell you what day it is and I have 3 pee jugs that need emptying. NO ONE on your video was a real geek. I'm a real geek. I have customized my Gentoo Laptop from the start up to the shut down. I preorder 2 copies of the same game: One special edition (unopened) and one regular edition to play. You have soiled the name of geeks by making it trendy. We geeks have suffered throughout our high school careers to earn our reputation. You can't come along and take it from us without facing consequence. Go back to your normalcy or whatever you were. Being nerdy isn't cool. It's being a douche. Being "ironic" is going to get you ironically beat. /rant.

I don't know if I can call myself a geek,but I surely enjoy calling myself a nerd,as I think many of the people in the advertisement video of this site would. In fact,I'm sure many geeks can also define themself as nerds.A nerd is simply someone who have a passion(sometimes near obsessively) and care more about it than being "normal" and "mainstream",although this definition can be use for a narrower group of caracterized people(such as those who are "smart" and unpopular).But if some feel more confortable with the "geek" appelation,it's their right,and it can best define someone whose passion is centralized on new technologies,computers and new medias.

At the beginning I was sceptical too about this whole "geeks are cool thing" but hey - it gives me the freedom to wear videogame t-shirts, to openly speak about my D&D group and quoting Star Trek without becoming a social pariah. I'm glad that so many things I loved in my young live are getting cool, because I can remember them being not cool. And that wasn't so cool for me either.
I think geeks all over the world can be glad and can feel proud about what has happened in the last few years. I mean, hell, that was always the problem. Geeks and nerds were always unpopular and were sad about it. Now we are suddenly popular (that, what you always wanted) and now it's not okay again? Be glad, we freed ourselves from those old boundaries. And by the way: who the fuck here should have the competence to say what's geek and what's not? I have no idea of programming or linux but I would stell call me a geek.

Just because I've got grey hair, I'm female and somebody's mother doesn't mean I can't be a geek. What it means is that I was using a network before most of you were born and that I've seen those amazing new tech breakthroughs go from high priced luxuries to being children's toys. I resent being under-represented in Geekdom. I've paid my dues and I have the scars to prove it.

The thing about us geeks is that we all have our own deffinition of what a geek is. To you it's a computer freak. To me it's someone who is a nerd with social skills. The cool thing about us geeks is that there are many diffrent kinds, so don't ever till anyone that they aren't a geek. We all deserve the credit when we take over the world.
